The Beautiful State Himachal Pradesh

Until the 19th century, tourism in Himachal Pradesh was largely limited to the movement of pilgrims visiting a few spiritual destinations in the hills. It was only when the British established a chain of hill stations that tourism gained recognition in the state. Tourism saw a significant boost when the British declared Shimla as the “Summer Capital of India” in 1864. After independence, increased investment in infrastructure further opened up tourism in the state. However, the most significant growth in tourism occurred during the 1980s and 1990s.
